TimeContinuum update
28 September 2004 in Code-ing & Pocket PC | Comments (0)

TimeContinuum — the free time sync software for Windows Mobile platform — is close to public beta release! Here is an action-screenshot of the latest build running in landscape mode:

TimeContinuum beta main screen

It now has got the possibility for you to add your own personal time server to the list and everything seems to work really stable at this stage!

TC works well under Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition in portrait, landscape and VGA. Although, I haven’t optimized it for VGA specifically, WM emulator manages to adjust it for VGA screen. I might implement support for VGA resolution if I can ever get a Pocket PC with VGA screen (they are taking forever here).

Now you might be wondering when this will be ready. Soon, my friends, soon… ;) (I’ve got a lot of work to do still: icons for TimeContinuum, a bunch of reviews and, naturally, my studies to do.)

REVIEW: SPB Time
14 July 2004 in Pocket PC | Comments (0)

Wheew, after much armwrestling with my ADSL connection and the such, my review of SPB Time is finally published! :D

The (corny) intro goes like this:

I have discovered that the relentless white-ish ActiveSync screen on my Pocket PC starting at me from the dock, is in fact annoying. Finally, SPB Time solves that by giving me a possibility of getting a grasp on the time passing by in the form of an analog or digital clock, or the world as we know them. If you happen to fall into hypnosis by the new skinnable screensaver, then it also offers alarms and timers to complete the suite and keep you awake. Read on for more details.

Put Quran in your phone
1 June 2004 in Pocket PC | Comments (0)

Just saw something new and eye-opening over at PDAGold: freeware PocketQuran for Microsoft Smartphones! I’m not much of a religious books reader, but I like to inspect the software implementions of them and browse through their hi-tech features. The interesting fact with this piece of software is that it doesn’t require Arabic support on the smartphone! Now, my Arabic isn’t that good, so I can not say how well this can be read on a Smartphone screen.

Oh, and remember that the text is read from right-to-left not in the same way as we “westeners” do (left-to-right)…

Remember when VGA was new and hot?…

… Well, now small Pocket PCs are taking the step into VGA resolutions and Toshiba is showing us the way. Over at Pocket PC Tools you can have a look at real action screenshots taken on an upgraded Toshiba e800.
The images are JPEG compressed, so what you see is definately not what you get. Some programs also seem to look better in VGA than other — with some toolbar icons looking awfully small… :P

Sync-n-print your Pocket PC!
1 June 2004 in Pocket PC | Comments (0)

Now this is just too cool to be true, almost: ActivePrint is a program that givews your Pocket PC the ability to print 60 different document types via your PC. This happens whenever you dock your Pocket PC and happen to have something to print in the printing queue on your PPC. For more info, see the ActivePrint webpage. Source: Pocket PC Addict.

Motorola MPx is the size of a cigarette pack…?
31 May 2004 in Pocket PC | Comments (0)

Mobile Gadget News have got a hold of a cigarette pack and Motorola MPx size comparison pics.
This is something, uhh, scary? Maybe the surgeon general should put a warning on the MPx, warning that it might be very dangerous to your health to try smoking the MPx? Well, an exploding lithium polymer battery can cause serious skin burns (Li+H20 = instant cooking water!).

REVIEW: XDA II / iMate PPCPE Compact Flash + VGA Backpack
17 May 2004 in Pocket PC | Comments (0)

Arne Hess has gotten a nice review of the backpack for XDA II/ iMate PPCPE phones. The backpack that boasts a compact flash slot and VGA output is an attractive feature for things like presentations. I thought it looked like a good idea, but after reading Arne’s review, I’m seeing that this backpack isn’t that fitting for daily use after all.

And There’s More of That…

Brighthand has written an analysis of the new Pocket PC OS version as well as borrowed some screenshots from Pocket PC Paradise (au Français — in French).

UPDATE: Arne Hess has got some sweet screenshots of the update. Check them out!

Parlez-Vous Français?

Well, I used to but now it’s time to improve on it again! PDAFrance has got the latest shots of Windows Mobile Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition (yeah, that’s a really long name!). The coolest features are the one’s we’ve heard rumors about: switch to and from landscape mode!

I like the new option for changing the screen font that’s new in Control Panel. Also cool are: support for secure WiFi connections, and a new 3D button look for the soft keyboard.

Furthermore, all apps seem to be able to switch to landscape mode — even Windows Media Player. Seems like I have to update my WMA skinning guide again! (*hint* The guide is yet to come, so don’t worry.)

iPAQ 6300 Out In July
20 March 2004 in Pocket PC | Comments (0)

BargainPDA has apparently got the latest scoop on the iPAQ 6300. What they have learned is that the iPaq will be out in July and manufactured by LG in South Korea. More details:

  • GPS and WiFi are confirmed but not Bluetooth?

  • It will feature a PXA266 400 MHz, perhaps.
  • 128 MB RAM
  • Camera integrated

The source is allegedly a LG representative at CeBIT. How much of this information is reliable, remains to be seen. It seems much different when compared to the information that the previous rumours brought us.
