Flu Flu Fly Away…
31 August 2005 in Root | Comments (1)

… if only that worked. Well, I’m a bit knocked out of my productive self right now thanks to this flu that found me (I didn’t find it!). Will return better feeling next week I hope, just about when my studies resume over at my university. (Now where did I put that recepie for chili (soup)… ? It is one flu killer, you should know. ;) )

Poets of The Fall Album Available on Amazon

If you have played Max Payne 2, then you might have heard of Poets of the Fall. They are the band who made the theme song to Max Payne 2 called Late Goodbye. (There are numerous references to the song througout the game also, thugs are playing a bit of the tune on the piano in an Upper East Side apartment, a “real” cleaner is singing along to the song on his cassette player, Max has got Poets of the Fall CDs laying around in his apartment, and the list goes on…) Well, since I’m a fan of this band all since I bought their first two singles and then their album, I have to give ‘em some free publicity.

Poets of the Fall’s album “Signs of Life” is now available on Amazon USA and Amazon UK. I could tell you all how great I think the band is, but I know from personal experiences that describing music in words isn’t working well since people like music differently. Instead, head over to Poets of the Fall’s homepage and listen to some samples from their album and read the reviews on Amazon.

I personally like the album very much and would give it 5 out of 5 stars. It is dynamically varying rock music to fit most moods and great to play almost anywhere. Check it out if you start to feel hungry for some fresh, different independent rock music someday. ;)

Driving a Segway in Finland is *gasp* a CRIME?
11 August 2005 in Root | Comments (0)

Yeah folks, you read that right. We in Finland currently have the stupidest government in the world. Not only do our “senators” have way, way too much spare time to think about making new, rediculous law changes, but our current vehicle laws prohibit the use of a Segway! Here is what Finland for Thought blogs:

Everyone’s seen these Segway thingys, right? Well the Finnish police could charge you if you drive one on public property. Yay government…!

According to Sgt. Pertti Mäkeläinen of the National Traffic Police, the Segway can only be driven on private property.

“There is no going on public roads covered by the Road Traffic Act.”

And what happens if a Segway user defies this ban?

“Well, the response would be a caution or a charge. We have the means to intervene in this sort of thing”, says Mäkeläinen.

Sheesh, and not only that, but those motorized kick-boards are also illegal to drive in Finland. You’d think someone could see a beneficial use of those Segways in the public, but nooo, of course we can’t! Do I have to take matters into my own hands and try my luck in the next parliament election just to get a small chance to change the phunked up laws in this country of mine? :?

Hmm… I can’t help but wonder if a “speed chase” á la Southpark would happen if the police would catch me putting the pedal to the metal on a Segway. Would that get me on C.O.P.S. or the Finnish equivalent of “America’s Most Wanted” — Poliisi TV?

Funky Blog Design Again in IE
11 August 2005 in Root | Comments (1)

Ok, I first thought the design of this WordPress style looked a-OK in Internet Explorer at first, but as always, I managed to phunk it up. I inserted the Google ads just above the post in some quick copy-and-paste action and now the whole site looks crappy once again in IE. The fault is most likely my own and not Google’s, so, someday I might need to dig up my lean mean CSS skillz and try to debunk the problem. I mostly use Opera at home and at uni, so I didn’t notice the problemo until I fired up IE over at my summer work. D’oh! :(

Sidenote: I haven’t yet tested this site with Firefox, but I think there should be no major design problems, since the developers claim that their browser is standards compliant… (but not as much as Opera’s browser though… ;) )

Epson Is Blogging from the IAAF Championships in Helsinki, Finland
9 August 2005 in Root | Comments (0)

I was wondering who, if anyone, was blogging from the IAAF world championship down in Helsinki (about 400 km from where I currently am) and strangly enough someone (or something?) from Epson writing up on the events as they happen. The blogger has found certain interesting “sights” in Helsinki, for example, a karaoke taxi , and an underground 100m training facility.

If you have been watching the games in Helsinki, you might be interested in taking a blogger’s peek behind the scenes at the following address: http://epsoniaaf.blogspot.com/

New Design
8 August 2005 in Root | Comments (1)

Welcome to the new design of my homepage. I decided that it is time to change the look of this site once and for all, since the old standard WordPress style was getting on my nerves when everyone who installes WordPress starts out using the same style. This new style isn’t mine, though, but one made by Brody Vercher and nicely called: subLIMEnal 1.0. (Mmmmmm, lime ;) )

The newer design is much more me, with my favorite green theme that I used pre-WordPress-version-1.5. It will still require some design changes from my side, and one has been done already (which is larger font size on the posts) and more are to come. Let me know what you think of the new design in the comments section… :)
