Walking on water is possible once again
30 November 2004 in Mobloggin' | Comments (0)
Here is yesterday’s wonderful view from the university campus:

If you didn’t know, the sea around the campus has been covered by ice, which tends to happen after a few weeks of minus degrees Celcius. Evidently, the ice has already gained enough centimeters to hold people which you unfortunately can’t see in the picture — but there were two persons out on the ice trying to catch some fish. Or, that is what it looked like to me.
I don’t dare to walk out on the ice yet. It might be thick enough to hold a human right now, but at other places it might still be too thin. I might try my luck in January when the ice should be almost a meter thick and holding the mass of cars and people. (Yes, that is possible) ![]()
Traffic in Finland reached new levels
28 November 2004 in Root | Comments (0)
The Internet traffic in my home country has grown exponentially large this year. The Finnish Communication and Internet exchange (Ficix) reported that they are seeing a 300% growth in IP traffic within Finland!
That is larger than the European IP traffic growth rate, which lies around 280%. To maintain network stability, Ficix has recommended all Finnish ISPs to prepere themselves for the aquisition of 10 Gbps network components (which does sound good on paper, but will it be enough?). The reason for the large increase in network traffic is believed to be the increasing demand for home broadband connections. Still, 52% of the homes in Finland connect through modem or ISDN while the rest are using some kind of broadband connection. The growth of ISP accounts have previously been at 100 000 a year, while that number was already reached in June this year.
I was personally amazed at the growth rate of the IP traffic inside this small country. On the other side I’m not, since there are more and more Internet content being offered by TV stations and other companies. For the stats from Ficix, have a look at Ficix statistics page.
Pocket PC Passion is sort of back
18 November 2004 in Pocket PC | Comments (0)
Just noticed that the Pocket PC fansite of the web: Pocket PC Passion is back… sort of, in the form of a blog. Dale Coffing’s Pocket PC website went down this summer and stayed down most of the time due to a monumential chain reaction of failures, mostly at the hard drive and the RAID controllers side!
For now, we have to settle with — uhh, more like “enjoy” when I think about it — Dale’s weblog over at the new old URI: http://www.pocketpcpassion.com/
Oh, I almost forgot: welcome back Dale! ![]()
Busy, busy, busy like a bee

Uhh… with that kindergarten-ish title, I am announcing my return to the internet.
Nah, I’ve been busy as usual with my studying and work lately and that has been causing some delays on my blogging page and such. So, don’t worry, I will return with a vengance (figuratively speaking) next week with more updates. Meanwhile, I’ll try to finish off the skyskraper of work that is looming over my head. ![]()

REVIEW: SpaceTime Calulator Pro review
2 November 2004 in Root | Comments (0)

My latest review of SpaceTime Calculator is now up on PDAGold.com. SpaceTime Calculator is not as advanced and cool as it’s bigger brother SpaceTime, but still better than the simple calculator included with your Pocket PC. Here’s a piece of the review:
If you have ever used your Pocket PC’s standard calculator, you have probably been in a situation where, for example, are out shopping and trying to calulate the sum of your shopping cart. And, just when you are finished, you enter the wrong number and have to start calulating all from the start. After sounding your frustration over the software, you wonder if there isn’t anything better out there. Guess what? There is something better: SpaceTime Calculator.
